Top Canadian CEO’s iPhone Blog: Stay Connected with the Latest Telecom Trends in Canada

Get ready to say goodbye to sharing your Disney+ password with friends and family this summer as the company gears up for a crackdown on password sharing. CEO Bob Iger recently announced that the initiative will kick off in select countries in June, with a wider rollout scheduled for September. This move aligns with a similar policy already in place for Disney’s streaming service Hulu.

During Disney’s third quarter earnings call last year, Iger hinted at the upcoming crackdown, and now we have a clearer timeline for when it will take effect. The decision to implement this change was influenced by Netflix’s successful password sharing crackdown, which led to an increase in new accounts.

While Disney+ is still operating at a loss, the company anticipates that the streaming service will turn a profit soon. If Disney+ follows Netflix’s model, users looking to add extra members to their account may be required to pay an additional fee per month. This practice is already in place for Netflix’s Standard and Premium plans, with each extra member costing $7.99 CAD monthly.

Stay tuned for more updates on how this password sharing crackdown will unfold in Canada and how it may impact your Disney+ experience.
