Unlocking Growth: Dimensity 9300 SoC Set to Skyrocket MediaTek’s Market Share to 35% in 2022

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300: A Game-Changer in the World of Flagship Chips

MediaTek made a bold move with its flagship Dimensity 9300, equipping it with four Cortex-X4 Prime CPU cores and four Cortex-A720 Performance CPU cores. This powerful chipset does not include low-power Efficiency CPU cores but boasts the Arm Immortalis G720 GPU. The Dimensity 9300 is currently fueling the vivo X100 series and is set to power upcoming flagship tablets like the vivo Pad 3.

According to Economic Daily (via Wccftech), MediaTek saw a 70% increase in flagship chip revenue last year, generating over $1 billion in gross revenue thanks to the Dimensity 9300 SoC. Analysts predict that this trend will continue, projecting double-digit growth for flagship chip revenue this year. Morgan Stanley analysts Charlie Chan and Daisy Dai even labeled the Dimensity 9300 as the most powerful smartphone SoC currently available.

In fact, they anticipate MediaTek’s market share to climb to as high as 35% by 2024 from its current standing at 20%. It’s estimated that around 20 million Dimensity 9300 chips will ship, posing a significant challenge to rival chip designer Qualcomm.

Later this year, during the fourth quarter, MediaTek is expected to unveil the Dimensity 9400. This new chipset has been pitted against its competitor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, in Geekbench tests. The Dimensity 9400 will feature a unique configuration including one Cortex-X5 Prime CPU core, three Cortex-X4 Prime CPU cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance CPU cores; once again, there are no low-powered Efficiency cores.

The upcoming Dimensity 9400 will also be notable for being the first chipset manufactured using TSMC’s highly-anticipated 3nm process node. Specifically, it will be made using TSMC’s N3E second-generation 3nm node. MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai has already teased that this new AP will have AI capabilities that can rival other chipsets.

In light of Qualcomm’s expected price hike for their Snapdragon S Gen4 AP, MediaTek appears to be strategically positioning itself by offering competitive pricing for their chipsets. In fact, there have been rumors that MediaTek has extended special pricing offers to Samsung for use of its Dimensity chipsets on low-end Galaxy phones.

This aggressive pricing strategy may ultimately help MediaTek secure a partnership with Samsung for their flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z foldables instead of relying solely on Qualcomm’s latest flagship APs.

Overall, it seems like MediaTek is making significant strides in establishing itself as a major player in the world of flagship chips. With innovative technology and strategic pricing tactics on their side, it’s clear that they are aiming high in terms of market share and industry influence.
