Exciting News: Google Wallet now compatible with Apple Wallet pass files!

Google Wallet has recently introduced an exciting new feature that allows users to share boarding passes and event tickets with others via a simple link. This feature was specifically designed for those who do not have the Google Wallet app installed on their devices, particularly iOS users. However, a recent update has expanded this functionality to now include Apple Wallet passes as well.

This update, expertly documented by Android guru Mishaal Rahman, is aimed at closing the gap with Apple Wallet. Apple currently enjoys an advantage in this area due to its widespread use among apps and services that distribute digital tickets and passes on iPhones. Additionally, Apple Wallet offers a more seamless and integrated experience by typically providing the “Add to Apple Wallet” option.

With Google Wallet now supporting “pkpass” files, which are used to add passes to Apple Wallet on iPhones, Android users can expect a similar level of convenience and integration when it comes to adding tickets and passes. This move by Google Wallet has the potential to bridge the gap between the two platforms in terms of digital ticketing services.

While some Android users have already reported success in opening and importing “pkpass” files in Google Wallet, this functionality remains a server-side update on Google’s end. As this support gradually reaches more Android users, it will be interesting to see how it enhances the user experience and convenience for consumers using Google Wallet on their Android devices. Stay tuned for more updates!
