iOS 17.2 update for iPhone 15 Pro introduces spatial video capture feature by Apple

Apple has finally brought spatial video capture to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with the latest iOS 17.2 update. This feature was teased during a conference in September and is now available for users of these two iPhone models. To enable spatial video capture, users can do so in the Settings menu and start recording their favorite moments in three dimensions.

According to Apple, spatial videos are captured in 1080p at 30fps in standard dynamic range. To capture spatial videos, users can open the Camera app in Video mode, rotate the phone to landscape orientation, tap the spatial video icon, and click record.

When recording, the iPhone will capture video from both the main and ultra-wide cameras and save everything into a single video file. The field of view from the ultra-wide camera is scaled to match that of the main camera.

It’s important to note that spatial videos are meant to be viewed using Apple’s Vision Pro headset. If watched on an iPhone or other devices, the spatial videos will appear as regular, 2D videos. All spatial videos captured are saved in a new Spatial album in the Photos app and will be synced across devices with iCloud.

However, Apple’s Vision Pro is set to hit shelves early next year, so those who want to take full advantage of the spatial video capture feature will have to wait until then.
