New iPhone 17 Rumored to Feature Durable, Glare-Free Screen • Phones Canada Blog

Rumors from Asia suggest that the upcoming iPhone 17 series, set for release next year, will introduce a revolutionary anti-reflective display technology. This feature is expected to surpass the scratch resistance of Apple’s current Ceramic Shield found in the iPhone 15 lineup.

According to reports from a Chinese Weibo leaker known as Instant Digital, the outer glass of the iPhone 17 will incorporate a “super-hard anti-reflective layer” for added durability against scratches. The manufacturing equipment required for applying this innovative coating has recently been deployed within China’s supply chain.

Although this cutting-edge feature won’t be available in the upcoming iPhone 16 series, Apple enthusiasts can look forward to its debut in the iPhone 17 lineup.

Apple’s Ceramic Shield, developed in partnership with Corning, is known for its exceptional resilience and durability, outperforming typical smartphone glass materials. On the other hand, Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 Ultra features a Gorilla Glass Armor display panel by Corning, designed to reduce reflections and resist micro-scratches.

While it’s unclear whether Apple will adopt the Gorilla Glass Armor technology for the iPhone 17, speculations align closely with this possibility. Corning, a long-time collaborator of Apple, has previously supplied Gorilla Glass for various Apple devices.

Apple’s substantial investment of $495 million in Corning’s research and development efforts has led to the development of cutting-edge glass technologies like the Ceramic Shield. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new display technology as we get closer to the release of the iPhone 17 series.
